Host a STEM expert at your school!
Are you a science teacher for grades 6th to 8th in the educational regions of San Juan and Ponce? Are you interested in motivating your students to get involved in science projects?
In collaboration with the organization Ciencia en tus Manos, CienciaPR presents this opportunity for an expert in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) disciplines to visit your school and foster students' curiosity and participation in research and exploration projects.
Visit objectives
We provide students with:
- A talk on the discipline and career path of a STEM expert.
- A culturally relevant STEM role model (local scientists).
- An experiment and demonstration that sparks scientific curiosity.
- A Scientific Project Guide to guide and motivate participation in science fairs and other exploration projects.
- A mentoring experience that increases their self-efficacy in the sciences and their desire to explore.
What type of school will be able to participate?
- Public middle schools (6th to 8th grade) in the educational regions of San Juan and Ponce.
- Student groups:
- from chemistry, physical science, biological science, and engineering and technology classes.
- who have never received a visit from a STEM expert in their classroom.
- with limited exposure to STEM experiences.
Call for applications opens each school year, between August and September.
