In the past three years, the Nanotechnology Center from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez has impacted 1,512 students from 23 public schools where 73% of students are under the poverty level. Statistics show that in the past two years, students that participate in the Center are more likely to pursue careers related to STEM (science, technology, engineer and math) fields.

The Nanotechnology Center at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez impacts students in public schools on the west side of the Island, where 73% of students are below the poverty level. This program exposes students to STEM careers and encourages them to pursue higher education.

Bethzaely Fernández, doctoral student from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez Campus, won second place in the Chemistry and Chemical Sciences Oral Presentations ­category with her research project titled: Imprinted Zeolite Carbon Composites for the Removal of Contaminants of Emerging Concern from Water.

Student from UPR-Mayaguez wins first place in poster competition at Annual Conference in California

Andres F. Calle Hoyos, a graduate student from the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, won first place in the poster competition during the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Annual Conference & Expo 2016 held in Anaheim, California during May 21-24, 2016.
