¿Cambia el uso de mascarilla ante nuevas variantes de COVID-19?

Durante las últimas semanas el mundo ha observado con cautela al menos tres nuevas variantes del virus que causa COVID-19. Estas variantes surgen como parte de un proceso natural por el que pasan todos los virus, y es el de cambiar o mutar.

La variante que ha causado más preocupación se conoce como B.1.1.7 y fue identificada por primera vez en el Reino Unido. Aunque no se ha encontrado que cause una enfermedad más severa, la B.1.1.7 sí es altamente contagiosa o transmisible.

Ciencia Puerto Rico joins the COVID-19 Wisdom Coalition (COSACO), the Citizen Health Committee (CCS), Vistazo a la Ciencia, Periódico Nuestro, and Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción (MPA) to urgently ask the mayor of San Juan, the Hon. Carmen Yulín Cruz to take immediate action to integrate the municipality of San Juan into the Municipal System for Case Investigation and Contact Tracking (SMICRC). Currently, the capital city is the only municipality in Puerto Rico that does not participate in the SMICRC, despite having the highest incidence of infections and deaths in the entire archipelago. CienciaPR, Puerto Rico Public Health Trust and Mercy Corps join forces to educate about COVID-19

The Puerto Rico Public Health Trust (PRPHT) and Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR), together with the humanitarian organization Mercy Corps Puerto Rico, dedicated to supporting communities and micro-businesses, started an alliance to educate young adults about the urgency of modifying their behaviors to stop COVID-19 infections in Puerto Rico.

With the slogan “Cuídate, Cuídame” (Take care of yourself, Take care of me), the organizations launched the educational campaign, which is made up of several efforts aimed mainly at the populations between 20 and 39 years old, which have the highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rico Public Health Trust (PRPHT), a program of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust (PRSTRT), launches “Salud Pública al Mediodía” (Public Health at Noon), the new digital transmission of live segments whose host will be the executive director of the PRPHT, Dr. José F. Rodríguez Orengo. The show will air via Facebook Live two to three times a week at noon; and will bring COVID-19 updates and various public health topics starting Monday, August 10.

The COVID-19 Clinical Laboratory Working Group led by the Puerto Rico Public Health Trust (PRPHT), a program of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust; Ciencia Puerto Rico, and the reference laboratories of Puerto Rico announce that 100,000 molecular tests for SARS-CoV-2 have already been completed since March 26 in collaborative efforts to fight the novel virus on the Island. The group also indicates that more than 3,000 daily tests are already being completed in these laboratories.
