A study by Drs. Juan Negron and Nancy Villanueva seeks to learn more about the perception that the community of Cataño has on mangroves. For this research project, both scholars carried out interviews at the Bay View community which is in constant contact with this species.

The University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus will receive funds for two research projects in evolutionary biology in collaboration with Universities in the United States. According with the Resident Commissioner in Washington, Jenniffer Gonzalez Colon, these funds ascend $4,383,316.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recommends the assignment of $200,000 federal funds for the program on restoration of coral reefs from the University of Puerto at Rio Piedras as part of the Coastal Resilience Grants.
