The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recommends the assignment of $200,000 federal funds for the program on restoration of coral reefs from the University of Puerto at Rio Piedras as part of the Coastal Resilience Grants.

The University of Puerto Rico - Medical Sciences Campus will hold a series of educational activities in the Brasil Republic School at the La Riviera Community of Rio Piedras with the purpose of contributing to the management and control of pediatric asthma in the scholar population.

The Las Curias Lake, the only artificial lake constructed in San Juan during the Second World War, had the purpose of providing the metropolitan zone with water. Its operations were closed in 1980, while it no longer provides water for the community it does have an unique ecological and recreational value in the zone.
