San Juan - The leatherback turtle nesting season in Puerto Rico finished with an all time high number of nests counted, which environmental organizations attribute to more public awareness via outreach campaigns.

Carmen R. Guerrero Pérez, secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, announced that the first leatherback turtle nest of the year has been reported in Isla Verde.
