NASA recently awarded a grant to doctor Arturo J. Hernández Maldonado, professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM) to develop and transfer technology that will help astronauts in the International Space Station breath air that is more pure and requires less energy to generate.

An article about the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Department of Industrial Engineering Research Experiences for Undergraduated (REU), won the Best Division Paper Award Industrial Engineering Division during the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).

The article titled Measuring Multicultural Sensitivity: The Case Study of the REU Program at UPRM, measured the effect of the program on the participating students' intercultural skills.
