The universe we live in lies in the intersection of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics, yet there is no comprehensive way to connect these two fields in a practical way.
I am discovering the fundamental principles of how environmental (thermodynamic) quantum effects assist and prevent efficient energy transfer in light harvesting systems, such as photosynthetic complexes or organic photovoltaics.
I have developed a new theory of Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory for Open Quantum Systems for this approach.
I am also applying concepts from Quantum Information and Quantum Thermodynamics to develop new engineering principles for energy transfer.
