I am a biologist from Iceland trained in systematics and evolutionary biology. My fieldwork takes place in the tropics where I especially look for and collect spiders and silk from spider webs. My lab work involves gathering of molecular and morphological data, and testing silk for its biomechanical properties.
My work focuses on four areas: 1) biogeography of aracnids on island archipelagos such as the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean; 2) evolution of sociality and inbreeding in spiders; 3) spider silk biomechanics and evolution of silk and webs; 4) phylogenetics of mammals
