Infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is now well-controlled with antiretroviral therapy in developed countries, rendering this infection essentially a chronic disease. While treated HIV-infected individuals are not dying of AIDS anymore, they are more susceptible to life-threatening complications that affect several organs. My research focuses on pulmonary complications of HIV and how viral proteins reprogram the normal biomolecular landscape in vascular cells leading to pulmonary vascular remodeling and pulmonary hypertension. Techniques learned in this field can certainly be applied to research in other vascular systems as well. We encourage highly motivated students to come onboard!
