Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
I am a candidate for PhD at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I obtained my BS degree in Industrial Biotechnology in 2009 at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. Later in 2009 I started my PhD studies in molecular microbiology. Currently I am working on my dissertation research to obtained a PhD degree in Molecular Microbiology.
Currently my interest involved the study of signaling pathways in bacteria and how bacteria react to environmental changes. This process is very important for the survival and in the case of pathogens to effectively colonize and infect the host. My research focuses on light regulated signal transduction in a marine bacteria and the goal of my research is to use a combination of biochemical and biophysical tools in order to characterize and determine a mechanism of activation of these proteins. This would lead to a model that can be used to test other signaling pathways in bacteria.
