  • Participants must work with their company/institution to support up to a $2,750 cost share – representing only 25% of the total cost of this program. If institutional funding cannot be secured, SACNAS will fully support the participation of accepted candidates.

2026 LPSLI is happening in-person, July 20-24 at the American Chemical Society (ACS) Headquarters in Washington, DC with an additional virtual component prior to the institute.

Postdoctoral Associate in Marine Biogeography. With funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation I am seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to investigate patterns of species and genetic diversity in coastal marine environments, and to discover and test the mechanisms that drive this diversity and allow it to persist. Postdoc will work with an integrated, interdisciplinary team to develop and examine large datasets of species and genetic distributions. Work will draw heavily on the fields of oceanography, genetics, and population ecology. Postdoc will work closely with Jeb Byers, and also my collaborator Jamie Pringle (UNH). Programming experience (R or Python) and a background in biogeography are important qualifications. Candidate is expected to exhibit collegial attitude, strong motivation, and good writing skills. Position is based at the University of Georgia. The postdoc position is funded for 24 months, contingent upon positive performance review after year one. The Young Innovative Investigator Program (YIIP) is a 2-year program of The Cato T. Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering which aims to develop the next generation of innovative scientists by providing academic training to individuals dedicated to pursuing careers as scientists and scholars in biological and biomedical science. The program is specifically focused on recruiting underrepresented students to contribute towards developing a sustainable pipeline to increase diversity among the pool of academic scientists. YIIP provides tools for scholars to conduct research, succeed in an academic environment, and become competitive candidates for medical school and/or graduate school. YIIP Scholars will acquire the expertise necessary to obtain a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or M.D.

Overview:
YIIP is an intensive research program for college graduates comprised of graduate level coursework and mentored research in biomedical laboratories at the University of Connecticut (Farmington and Storrs campuses). It provides individualized mentorship, academic support, and career guidance. YIIP Scholars earn a stipend and qualify for health insurance coverage. In addition, some tuition expenses and fees associated with required graduate level courses are waived. Upon successful completion of year one, scholars obtain a Graduate Certificate of Research Experience in Biomedical Science. In year two, Scholars who meet the academic qualifications pursue a Master of Science in Biomedical Science involving innovative mentored research.

Eligibility:

The selection committee is committed to the principle of IDEAL, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism, and Learning, as a plan to achieve justice and equity. A priority for the program is increasing (1) individuals traditionally underrepresented and marginalized in the biomedical sciences and (2) first-generation students. My name is Ava Morgan, and I’m a Ph.D. student in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Baruch College, CUNY. I’m currently recruiting participants for a paid research study as part of my master’s thesis under the supervision of my adviser, Dr. Deepshikha Chatterjee. This virtual study focuses on the experiences of employees from underrepresented backgrounds working in STEM. The goal of this research is to help inform strategies that improve support, inclusion, and retention for professionals in STEM.

To be eligible, participants must (a) identify with at least two of the following identity characteristics: first-generation student, gender minority, LGBTQIA+, racial minority, immigrant or on visa, low socioeconomic status, having a disability, or veteran status, (b) currently work full-time in STEM in the U.S., and (c) have less than 5 years of full-time work experience.

What’s Involved?

  • Answer short, quick daily surveys online (under 5 minutes each) over a 10-day period about your work experiences.

  • Receive a $10 gift card for 10 days of responses, or $5 for at least 5 days of responses.

The BioMed X Institute Barbados is establishing a new, fully funded research group in the following field:

AI-Enabled Therapy of Early Diabetic Kidney Disease in Barbados

If you hold a PhD or expect to complete your PhD soon with an outstanding track record or strong interest in this field, we invite you to apply with a project proposal for a position in our new research group (1 group leader, 1 postdoctoral researcher).

This call for application is supported by the Government of Barbados and the European Union.

Despite major advances in diabetes research, early diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains biologically heterogeneous and poorly understood, particularly in Caribbean populations of African descent. Most mechanistic insights derive from non-representative cohorts, limiting biomarker discovery and therapeutic precision. Recent multi-omic and machine learning approaches have revealed molecular DKD subtypes, yet their applicability to Caribbean Black populations, including Barbadians with distinct genetic and environmental backgrounds, remains unexplored.

The objective of this project is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms driving early DKD in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados through deep molecular profiling and advanced machine learning tools. By combining multi-layer molecular characterization of Barbadian patients and healthy controls with AI-driven modeling, the project aims to construct a population-specific digital African twin to enable refined patient stratification and inform adaptive treatment strategies.

Research proposals should focus on the following key deliverables:

  • Performance of focused molecular profiling of Barbadian Type 2 Diabetes patients with early DKD and matched healthy controls.
  • Development of an AI-driven digital African twin model capturing population-specific molecular heterogeneity, disease trajectories, and predictive stratification features.
  • Identification and validation of novel molecular biomarkers informing personalized DKD risk assessment and treatment adaptation in Barbados.

Original ideas reaching far beyond the current state-of-the-art are particularly encouraged. Pure integration or reanalysis of existing data, approaches solely based on established biomarkers, or projects lacking integration of AI-based modeling and mechanistic insight are out of scope.

Please note that generic project proposals which were generated by large language models such as ChatGPT will not be considered.

Group leader positions are intended to suit candidates with a PhD (or equivalent) in AI/ML, epidemiology, nephrology, cardiometabolic diseases, or in a related area who would like to develop themselves towards a leadership career path either in academia or industry and have typically between three and six years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.

Candidates for postdoctoral positions are expected to have completed a PhD (or equivalent) within the last three years and a certain degree of specialization in one or more relevant cutting-edge technologies.

  • A position in a fully funded research group with an annual budget of 500,000 EUR. The funding package covers salaries, materials, services, travel, overhead, as well as access to the core facilities on the campus of the University of the West Indies.

We invite abstracts from undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty.
Conceptual, exploratory, and early-stage research abstracts are strongly encouraged to promote dialogue and collaboration.

Accepted abstracts will be presented as short oral talks or posters.

We invite you to apply for the 12th year of the Society for Science Advocate Program, which provides a $3,000 stipend and training to an individual (teacher, scientist, counselor, or mentor) who agrees serve as an advocate for students who have previously lacked access to STEM research and help them to transition them from conducting scientific or engineering research (science fair-type) projects to completing applications to STEM research competitions. There are four different types of Advocates, which allow both beginners and more advanced applicants to further expand their capabilities to support student research competition participation.

Many students doing science research are not aware of the myriad of opportunities that are attainable by submitting their work to competitions. Just completing the rigorous application process can inspire confidence in their scientific abilities and lead them to consider a STEM career. Many competitions provide monetary awards for post-secondary education and can boost a student's chance of acceptance into the college or university of their choice. Students who lack access to STEM research opportunities also often lack the know-how to successfully enter STEM research competitions.
