Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) at the Brown School of Social Work and Public Health invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral associate position to begin July 1, 2022, or as negotiated. We seek a mixed-methods researcher with scholarly expertise in Black families, racism, and wellbeing. The Black Families, Racism, and Resilience (BFRR) project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), is a longitudinal, mixed methodological investigation of Black families' vulnerability to or resilience against marginalization, focusing on parenting practices and adolescent developmental trajectories. The three-year project involves two phases of research with Black parents and adolescents: (1) annual survey data to examine the influence of parents' race-related experiences and racial socialization competencies on adolescent outcomes, and (2) in-depth qualitative analysis exploring parents' perceptions of the factors that shape their parenting practices and racial socialization competencies.

Competitive applicants will have a Ph.D. in psychology, human development and family studies, or a related field; strong statistical and analytical skills (e.g., longitudinal, profile, moderation using R, Mplus, STATA, or other statistical software). Applicants should also have a strong background in qualitative research. Experience and interest in conducting community-engaged research (including communicating with families and local agencies), strong writing and communication skills, and advancing academic and public-facing writing projects (e.g., op-eds & briefs) is preferred.  Experience writing manuscripts for publication is preferred.

This is a 3-year, 12-month position based in St. Louis, Missouri. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in St. Louis, though initial meetings will likely take place over Zoom as we continue to navigate the pandemic.
