The Dwight Bergles Laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine is seeking a Research Technologist who will work with a team that includes other technicians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to help in the isolation of glial cell types from the mouse brain, constructing single cell transcriptional profiles, and analyzing transcriptional changes induced by behavioral manipulations and aging.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist in research to elucidate the molecular stratification of different classes of neurons in the CNS:

  • Perform fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) to isolate glial cells from the mouse brain.
  • Perform immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization on mouse brain sections.
  • Use epifluorescence and confocal microscopy to analyze labeled brain sections.
  • Quantify images and single cell transcriptional changes

 

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field (Neuroscience, Chemistry, or Biomedical Engineering).

 

* Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
  • Experience with basic lab methods, such as making chemical solutions, histological techniques and molecular techniques.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)
