Rey Almodóvar, a graduate of the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (RUM), was inducted into the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame (AEHOF), a distinction that was created in 1987 by the then governor of that state that recognizes the excellence of outstanding individuals, companies and associated projects in that U.S. jurisdiction. 

"I am honored and humbled to join this prestigious group of professionals who have been included with me. To be in the company of space exploration pioneers and outstanding individuals is truly an incredible recognition. I am grateful for every opportunity life has given me to succeed in this industry, to serve our community and to mentor young professionals in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields," said the schoolboy, co-founder and senior executive officer emeritus of Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation (INTUITIVE). 
 
He added that this year six individuals, including Stuart Bell, Milton Davis, Jr, Tim McCartney, Thomas Talbot and Michael Wicks, as well as Dynetics Corporation, Inc. were honored at the awards ceremony held at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel last February. 
 

"Those selected for this important award make and continue to make significant contributions individually and collectively to the advancement of engineering and technology, which produces a better economy, promotes cultural growth and contributes to the political future for the state and country. Hall of Fame inductees inspire others to pursue careers in all fields of engineering. In addition, their careers and dedication to philanthropy are recognized," said the industrial engineer, who was paraded at the 1984 graduation ceremony of the Mayagüez campus. 

Dr. Agustín Rullán Toro, RUM rector, congratulated the green-blooded ambassador for his career that puts the name of the educational institution that has graduated generations of engineers with his achievements worldwide. 

"My congratulations to engineer Rey Almodovar for this recognition, because this entity identified the best in a human being: selflessness. Not only has he excelled in the world of work, but also in the recruitment of other students and for his love for the University of Puerto Rico. His commitment to our youth is fundamental to providing the country with excellent professionals of integrity," he said. 

Before co-founding INTUITIVE, Almodóvar worked for fourteen years as an engineer in the U.S. federal government after graduating from RUM. He later earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Texas A&M University and a second Master's degree in Engineering from the University of Arkansas. INTUITIVE is an engineering and analysis firm concentrating on defense and aerospace systems based in Huntsville, Alabama.
