For the first time in the Caribbean, scientists will study the capacity of a species of oyster to filter water. A field experiment being conducted by the San Juan Bay Estuary Program will place native oysters, Crassostrea rhizophora, in different parts of the Condado Lagoon, to test how well the species can act as a natural water filter.

Last week a of high school seniors, winners of the El Nuevo Día Educador 2013 Prizes, visited the Amgen facilities in Juncos.  The visit included tours of the analytical and manufacturing facilities to give the students a better understanding of the science and technology at work in the day to day activities of the company.

The company SC Johnson organized an orientation at the Villa Campestre summer camp, aimed at educating kids about dengue fever. The activities included games and learning about the Aedes aegypti,  the mosquito that transmits the disease.
