2024 ASPIRE Illinois Campus Visit

This is a program from University of Illinois, aimed at undergraduate students looking for graduate programs. They pay students to visit the campus and do interviews with faculty and program directors. Students accepted to the program may qualify for funding their first 2 years of graduate school.

"Graduate School Mentorship Initiative (for applicants interested in PhD and Master’s programs)

Our Científico Latino Graduate School Mentorship (GSMI) program will provide one-on-one guided mentorship for 100 STEM Master's and doctoral program applicants applying to graduate school this Fall 2024. Since 2019, we have helped over 450 students matriculate to graduate school. This program is supported by the Simons Foundation.

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS RESEARCHING COQUI AND CORONAVIRUS 2 WIN GRANT TO GO TO WASHINGTON DC

Kellyann Román-Cruz and Héctor G. Torres-De Jesús were awarded scholarships to attend the Emerging Researchers National 2024 Conference, which will be held in Washington DC from March 14-16.

This opportunity will allow them not only to present the latest results of their scientific research conducted at the Center for Research in Molecular Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico (CICiM-UPR), but also to improve their scientific communication skills and explore global professional alternatives in the sciences, which are the main objectives of the conference.

UPR Mayagüez Campus students begin 2024 with educational experience at Google

A group of 33 students from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Mayagüez Campus (RUM) participated in a Google Tech Exchange 2024 educational experience in Mountain View, California in early January. 

"This opportunity aims to empower students studying at HBCUs or HSIs (mostly Latino, Native and African American institutions) to grow in the technology industry. Participants in this program took virtual classes dedicated to developing skills in the field of Computer Science taught by Googlers, that is, engineers and software developers employed by Google with many years of experience in the computer industry," said Dr. Nayda G. Santiago, professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, coordinator of the initiative and member of its academic committee.
