Washington DC- Land Trust Alliance (LTA), an organization dedicated to the conservation of land in the United States, awarded to Fernando Lloveras San Miguel, president of the non-profit environmental organization Para la Naturaleza and executive director of the Port Conservation Trust Rico, the distinguished Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award.

The award was awarded during a digital broadcast of the 2020 Rally of the US organization's National Land Conservation Conference. This recognition honors individuals who have enriched the conservation community with their outstanding leadership, innovation, and creativity in land conservation.

The Kingsbury Browne Award honors the conservationist who inspired the founding of the LTA in 1982 and is one of the organization's high honors.

“Receiving the Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award fills me with humility and recharges me with energy to continue with the conservation goals of the islands of Puerto Rico together with the Para la Naturaleza team. I am very proud to have been part of the board of the Land Trust Alliance and to count on their support ”, said Mr. Lloveras San Miguel.

Lloveras San Miguel has served as executive director of the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust since 2003 and has been president of Para la Naturaleza since 2012.

Under his leadership, the organizations continue their work in favor of the conservation of lands of high ecological value in the islands of Puerto Rico, adopting a community liaison approach to work and help provide essential services to the communities during the recovery processes. after natural disasters.

“I have seen first-hand how Fernando and his team have established deep connections with the people they serve,” said Andrew Bowman, president and CEO of the Land Trust Alliance.

“Fernando represents the future of conservation: compassion, innovation, commitment, hard work and the conviction that his responsibility as an individual and the obligation of his organization is to do everything possible to improve the lives of the members of his community. It is an honor to recognize Fernando Lloveras San Miguel as the 2020 recipient of the Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award, ”concluded Bowman.

Lloveras will serve as Kingsbury Browne Fellow for the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy for the 2020-2021 term. Kingsbury Browne Fellows do research, writing, mentoring, and facilitating a project sharing their experience with the community.

“Fernando is an important voice in Puerto Rico. A very strong and kind voice that inspires thousands of people to join the search to protect our planet, ”said Ana María García Blanco, executive director of the Nueva Escuela Institute.

The Alliance has awarded the Kingsbury Browne Conservation Leadership Award annually since 2006. The recognition is made public during the largest annual gathering of land conservation professionals in the United States.
