The International AIDS Society (IAS) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) are proud to announce the fifth round of the IAS-NIDA Fellowship Programme. The application for the 2013 round will be open from 8 December 2012 to 10 February 2013. The IAS-NIDA Fellowship Programme aims at contributing to the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV while fostering international research collaborations.

The fellowship programme is awarded as a stipend of US$ 75,000 in two categories: to a junior scientist for 18-month post-doctoral training, or to a well-established HIV researcher for an eight-month-long professional development training at leading host institutes excelling in HIV-related drug use research. Applications from a wide range of disciplines will be accepted.

All fellows are required to choose a mentor at an institution different from their current institution. The mentor must hold an established post for the duration of the fellowship and have a track record in research and training in HIV and drug use. To facilitate the application process and to encourage international candidates, IAS and NIDA are providing a list of potential mentors including descriptions of their research interests. This list is intended to help prospective fellows choose a mentor in their field of interest, but fellows are not required to select a mentor from this list.

Fellows will be selected by April 2013, and will be invited to the 7th IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention (IAS 2013), which will be held from 30 June to 3 July 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Selected fellows will be officially awarded at the conference and will have the opportunity to participate in a training and networking programme.

In an effort to broaden the reach of this fellowship programme, both scientifically and geographically, we are asking for your assistance in circulating this information to your networks. With your help, we can reach a maximum number of scientists and advance the scientific understanding of drug use and HIV. We would like to request your help in the following ways:
