The Laboratory Branch, Division of HIV Prevention (DHP), National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) has multiple full-time Title 42 Associate Service Fellowship opportunites for Biologists/Microbiologists. Deadline to apply is November 30, 2022, 

Fellowship Description

The selected candidates’ research will focus on preclinical or clinical research to identify and evaluate novel antiretroviral or biologics-based prophylaxis and treatment strategies to prevent HIV infection.

Duties

The incumbent(s) will:

• perform studies to identify novel biomedical strategies to prevent HIV infection,
• execute molecular, serologic, and virologic methods to monitor infection, characterize viruses, and study drug resistance emergence,
• develop and optimize new assays, and modify existing assays as required, 
• write reports and proposals, train students, work efficiently with other lab members and collaborators, and
• present findings at local and international meetings and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Basic Qualifications 

A Master’s degree, Ph.D or equivalent, or foreign equivalent obtained from a recognized college or university and related post-graduate experience in an academic field related to the work of the position.

This is a full-time position being offered as part of the CDC service fellowship program under Title 42 of the U.S. Code. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and non-U.S. citizens with a work authorization are eligible. Applicants are responsible for obtaining the necessary work authorization.

Highly qualified candidates would possess the following:

• Master’s degree or recent Ph.D. graduate (within the past 2 years) in immunology, microbiology, cell, and/or molecular biology or related fields.
• Experience working with HIV/SIV, animal models, antiretroviral drugs or biologics, assay development and/or drug pharmacology.
• Ability to function in a team environment or work independently, collaborate with team members and external researchers, communicate proficiently in writing and orally, and utilize Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience in scientific publication.

Length of Assignment 

Two year full-time initial appointment, with possible extensions based on program’s need.

Stipend

Pay is equivalent to GS-09, step 1 to GS-12, step 10 based on education and experience.
