Brooklyn College of CUNY is seeking two new tenure-track faculty for fall, 2012. These are New York State-funded positions with 9 month salary, benefits, and appropriate research startup packages. Assistant Professor of Biology (prokaryotes) The Department of Biology seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Prokaryotic Microbiology. The position includes appropriate laboratory space, a suitable start-up package and a competitive nine-month salary. Responsibilities begin mid-August 2012 and include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that relate to the candidate’s professional background, participation in the CUNY Biology and/or Biochemistry Doctoral Program, and development of a strong externally-funded research program that trains undergraduate and graduate students. The research should include systematic and molecular approaches in ecology, environmental biology, evolution, or related areas. This work should relate to the College’s initiative in the urban environment, including marine estuaries. The faculty member will participate in teaching undergraduate courses as well as graduate courses that relate to his/her specialty. Development of a strong, competitive, research program that trains undergraduate and graduate research students and generates external grant funding is essential. Candidates applying for appointment as Associate Professor must have a have a strong record of research productivity and teaching. Candidates applying for Professor must show outstanding accomplishments in research productivity and funding, as well as pedagogy. Participation in the CUNY biology doctoral program is required. This is a tenure-track position, with competitive salary and benefits. Lab space and start-up funds for research will be provided. The successful candidate will join a research-active department of 17 faculty with expertise in microbiology, molecular and cell biology, bioinformatics, and behavioral neurobiology.
