Scholarship applications are now being accepted for courses in the:

A major goal of the Summer Institutes is to strengthen the statistical proficiency, as applied to genetics and infectious diseases, and career preparation of scholars from all backgrounds. We encourage applications from groups historically underrepresented in STEM such as racial and ethnic minority groups, low income, first generation college students, veterans, people with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ groups.

Funding Information

  • Scholarship funding is not available for the 2022 Summer Institute in Statistics for Big Data (SISBID) or the Summer Institute in Statistics for Clinical & Epidemiological Research (SISCER).
  • SISG scholarships are partially supported by the National Science Foundation under Award Number DEB-2016186.
  • SISMID is partially supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number R25 AI147391.
Eligibility & Requirements
SISG Scholarships
  • Eligibility: Graduate students who attend a U.S. institution are eligible to apply for SISG scholarships. 
  • Not Eligible: Postdocs and students attending international institutions are not eligible for SISG scholarships.
  • What scholarships cover: Scholarship recipients will have registration costs covered for up to three modules. 
  • Faculty mentor: In addition, each SISG recipient will be assigned a faculty mentor from among the SISG instructors.
  • Attendance requirements: Scholarship recipients are expected to attend pre-institute sessions July 6-8 to prepare for their modules. Activities include individual meetings with mentors as well as roundtable discussions about career planning, publication and grant strategies and other topics. If additional funding is approved, the July 6-8 sessions will be held in-person at the University of Washington in Seattle (all recipient costs covered by SISG). Otherwise, all sessions will be held online.

SISMID Scholarships

  • Eligible: Graduate students and postdocs at U.S. and international institutions are eligible to apply for SISMID scholarships.

  • What scholarships cover: Scholarship recipients will have registration costs provided for up to three modules.

How to Complete the Application

It is recommended that you complete your application in one session and save a copy of what you submit. If you are not able to complete it in one session, be sure to submit your information before closing your browser and save a copy as back up.

  1. When you have completed your application click Submit and the system will give you the opportunity to review your application.
  2. After reviewing details, click Submit a second time to complete the submission process.
  3. After submitting the application, you may access the application status through the Account Dashboard.

Applicants may apply for up to three modules total (any combination of SISG and SISMID modules).

The scholarship application deadline is March 31. Applicants will be notified of their award status beginning April 18.
