Post-baccalaureate and MS positions in Geoscience for LIT GEO Cohort 2

Program Period: August 2025 - July 2026 for Post-Bs and  August 2025 - July 2027 for MS.

LIT GEO: Leading Inclusive Transformation in Geoscience via an Intercultural Network of Learning Ecosystems

 

We are recruiting candidates for the LIT GEO (Leading Inclusive Transformation in Geoscience) post-baccalaureate (PB) and Master’s (MS) bridge programs. The project's primary goals are to broaden representation and create meaningful change in the Geoscience community while conducting community-based, societal-relevant geoscience research in learning ecosystems with community organizations.

Successful candidates will contribute to changing the culture of the geoscience community to make it more just, equitable, and inclusive. Participants SELECT one INSTITUTION but will be part of a multi-institutional team of Geoscientists from North Carolina Central University (NCCU)East Carolina University (ECU), and the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo (UPRA), and community organizations and leaders.

In addition to receiving fully funded competitive financial support to broaden career opportunities for graduate school or industry and prepare for the next career stage, successful candidates from diverse backgrounds will receive training, mentorship, and professional development while working on relevant societal and community-based research projects; enroll in classes as non-degree seeking grad students or MS students within the Network of institutions; conduct community engagement and outreach, fieldwork; participate in summits and project meetings; collaborate with other PB and MS students and work alongside faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and community organization leaders and members. 

Stipends cover tuition, fees, health insurance, books, and living expenses. Applicants with families and/or financial needs and from groups underrepresented in Geoscience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Before commencing the program, applicants must hold or graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Earth and Planetary Science, Geophysics, Oceanography, other STEM fields, or closely related fields. Applicants must be interested in societal relevant geoscience research, inclusive practices, environmental Earth science/geology, environmental justice, social justice, geoscience education, or closely related areas.

Applicants will be selected based on requirements and an interview.
