Mentoring Academy Travel Awards for 2016 ASCB Annual Meeting (Dec 3-7)
Applications open from Oct 4 - Oct 25
Mentoring Academy Travel Awards are supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health to the Minorities Affairs Committee(MAC) of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB). They are intended to help postdocs attend the ASCB annual meeting to participate in the Mentoring Academy. New this year, the Mentoring Academy will be offered the Saturday before the meeting, and will include interactive workshops designed to assist postdoctoral fellows, including those from underrepresented groups, to consider and develop plans for their careers. The Mentoring Academy will be facilitated by experts in professional career development and by MAC members. Some sessions include:
-
“Mentoring Up: Communication Style Assessment” by Steve Lee from UC-Davis
-
“How to Set Up and Manage Collaborations” by Andrew Campbell from Brown Univ
-
“Preparing Grant Budgets” with a panel including Luis Cubano, Franklin Carrero-Martínez, and Elizabeth Bartlemez
To qualify for a travel award, you must be an ASCB member or have recently submitted an application for ASCB membership. As this is a federally-funded program, it is restricted to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, and legal permanent residents. Postdocs from minority-serving institutions and from groups underrepresented in science are especially encouraged to apply.
