A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available to participate in a NSF-funded study aimed at understanding the contribution of landslides to land-cover change and carbon budgets in tropical and subtropical mountains. One key component of this project pertains to landslide deposits, including their distribution, relation to the stream network, and biogeochemistry. I am looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a Ph.D. in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Geomorphology, Geology, or Geography with experience in GIS and remote sensing and/or biogeochemistry. Knowledge of Spanish would be a plus since the study system is located in Guatemala. The postdoctoral fellow will join the Tropical Large-scale Ecology Lab at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras campus. The TLSE Lab addresses a variety of questions regarding the complex nature of tropical landscapes. The position is for one year with possibility for renewal for a second year and will be available starting January 1 2010. Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, names and contact information of 2 referees, and description of research interests and experience to: Dr. Carla Restrepo (crestre@hpcf.upr.edu). For more information about the lab and project please visit our web page at www.tlselab.uprrp.edu.
