Forums:

A postdoctoral position is available at the NSF funded Institute for Functional Nanomaterials (http://ifn.upr.edu) at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez (UPRM) to work in the areas of theoretical active soft condensed matter, statistical physics, and fluid mechanics.

The postdoc will join a new, dynamic group exploring modeling of active particles, such as catalytic motors and enzymes. This group is lead by Dr. Ubaldo M. Córdova- Figueroa (http://ucf.uprm.edu) from the Department of Chemical Engineering at UPRM and collaborators at IFN and other institutions in the US. By making active materials to be self-powered, they will also be capable of exploring and responding to their environment (sensor and cargo-release applications) without being tethered to a single power source or location. Successful applicants will be responsible for deriving models and performing simulations of active particles, as well as proposing new experiments.

We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and career-oriented. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related disciplines. The candidate is required to be exceptional in soft condensed matter physics, statistical mechanics, fluid mechanics, mathematics and computer programming. The candidate will also be required to write proposals, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and make technical presentations at national and international conferences.

Salary, benefits and visa sponsorship: The initial appointment will be for a period of 12 months, renewal will be granted at this period based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The salary is approximately $42,000 per year plus health insurance and additional fringe benefits. UPRM will sponsor a visa for non-US citizens/permanent residents if they are found to be eligible candidates.

The position is open until filled. Applicants should send a brief statement of research interest, curriculum vitae, and three names of references to Dr. Ubaldo M. Córdova-Figueroa at ubaldom.cordova@upr.edu. Please use "Theory postdoc application" as email subject.
