The Solid Waste Authority issued a series of recommendations to avoid the garbage accumulation that arises after the impact of a hurricane like Maria, where garbage collection is paralyzed for days or weeks.

The Puerto Rico House of Representatives approved a resolution to study whether vegetable oil used for cooking can be recycled as fueled for government vehicles.

Alanys had a problem. The shore of the beach she frequently visits with her family is covered with piles of algae. "They look ugly and the smell," she said. So she took matters into her own hands, with science. With her father's help she designed a few experiments to test if the algae could be used as fertilizer. She discovered that under certain conditions, algae can be recycled and used to make plants grow better.
