The University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine received the Spencer Foreman Award, a prestigous recognition for exceptional community service, which the equivalent of an Oscar, Emmy or Grammy.

The Mayaguez and Medical Sciences Campuses from the University of Puerto Rico will receive federal funding for research programs for the seismic network and HIV studies, respectively. According to the resident commissioner in Washington, Jenniffer Gonzalez, the total ascends $607,568.

An epileptic attack is a transitory symptom, associated with what some scientists have described as "electric storms" in our brain. This condition has various stages: prodrome, aura, convulsion, and the postictal phase.

A study from the The Caribbean Primate Research Center (CPRC) of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Medical Sciences Campus, revealed that having a big family and strong community bonds prolongs the lifespan of  rhesus macaques.

San Juan - It has happened to us more than once that we find ourselves in a hurry and the elevator we are waiting for takes too long to arrive. Immediately, we proceed to press the up or down key repeatedly, until we give up and decide to take the stairs. From a research perspective, the explanation for this fenomena of frustation was unknown until today. Guided by Drs. Fabricio Do Monte and Gregory Quirk, a team of neuroscientists in the School of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR-RCM), discovered how the brain reacts to a frustrating event.

With the purpose of understanding the function of heart muscles, research carried out at the University of Puerto Rico - Medical Sciences Campus, is studying the myosin-binding protein C (cMyBP-C). This protein controls the intensity and rhythm to which the heart contracts.
