As part of its social mission, The University of Puerto Rico at Carolina (UPR Carolina) is teaching students from the Elementary School Dr. Clemente Fernandez, about the academic use of technology. Once a month, students visit the Center for Learning Resources Jose P. Fernandez Miranda, at the Carolina campus, where they learn technology management skills that can be applied to their classes.

A breakout of opportunistic bacteria Acinetobacter Baumannii has affected 69 patients, 32 of which have died. This public health crisis has mainly been due to poor hygiene protocols followed by the hospital.
