Dr. Fernández-Repollet received her B.A. in Education from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus, her M.S. and Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus, and a postdoctoral training in renal physiology at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She joined the faculty of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Puerto Rico Medical School in 1982.
At the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Fernández-Repollet has been instrumental in establishing and administering a Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Program on the Medical Sciences Campus. She was the associate director of the program, supported by the National Institutes of Health, from 1986 to 1993 and has been the director since 1993. Currently, grant funds to the program exceeds $10 million. She also served as Vice President for Research and Technology from 2003-2009.
Dr. Fernández-Repollet has served on a number of review groups and advisory committees of the NIH, including the Natinal Council for Research Resources and the committee for developing the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) Strategic Plans for 2004-2008 and 2009-2012. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Trust for Science, Technology and Research and presided the Puerto Rico Healthcare Council.
