My main area of research is characterization of natural organic matter and its effects on many environmental processes. As part of this interest, I have developed new methods for the characterization of natural organic matter (NOM) in water and the study of its three-dimensional structure. I am also involved in the study of the chemistry behind advanced oxidation processes for water and waste water treatment (including re-use applications), including ozone and UV based technologies. My research also includes the evaluation of the kinetics between OH radicals and NOM using pulse radiolysis. A third area of research is the characterization of disinfection by-products from NOM and micro-contaminants via advanced analytical techniques (ICP-MS, LC/Ms/Ms, etc). Our research team is also involved in the study and quantification of EDCs and PPCPs in the environment for which we have collaborations with numerous national and international partners.
