About Me:
I have an Electronics Engineering degree from Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, USA. I have been working in academia for over 15 years where I have combined teaching with research. My current interest is in applications of AI and particularly of knowledge-based systems. I am currently conducting research on artifact recognition and expert systems for workflow management in Digital Publishing. I also carry out research on the Semantic Web.
Project Info:
Artifact recognition in digital publishing. This project deals primarily with detection and handling of artifacts that arise in veriable printing jobs or personalized printing jobs as a consequence of using variable contents on a unique template or document design. The project uses graphic design principles to decode the intentionality of the document designer and try to be as faithful as possible to the design when document contents is changed for personalization.
Expert system application for workflow management in digital publishing applies expert system technology to reduce the need for human intervention in decision making in digital publishing workflow management by applying human expertise and heuristics coded in a computer system.
The Semantic Web project aims at automating metadata generation for documents that are to be published in the semantic web. On one hand there is the problem of extracting semantic information from non-structured documents and on the other hand there is the problem of managing multiple ontologies (semantic representations) in a given domain.
