About Me and Project Info

About Me:

Julieann Colón Sarriera is an undergraduate student majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor degree in Medical Humanities from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. Ms. Colón has almost three years of experience combined in both behavioral and molecular neuroscience research. She is currently working to be admitted into a medical school program in Puerto Rico and aspires to become a physician to help contribute to improve the healthcare system of our island while providing affordable care to those in need.

Project Info:

Ms. Colón has worked for 2.5 years in a Behavioral Genetics and Neurobiology of Addiction laboratory using Drosophila melanogaster as model organism to understand the behavioral and molecular mechanisms underlying Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Additionally, Ms. Colón has conducted summer research at the Neurology Department of the University of Michigan, where she has worked with brain organoids as model to understand the role of ubiquilins (UBQLNs) in neurodegeneration.
