Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
I have an academic and professional background in epidemiology (MS) and in health system analysis and management (DrPH), both of the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. Currently, I am the Program Coordinator of the Professional Development Core at the Puerto Rico Clinical and Translational Research Consortium (PRCTRC), where I serves as a liaison to provide training and professional development activities that respond to the needs identified by investigators in the set of core competencies needed to become an effective clinical and translational researcher, expand the reach and breadth of the Mentored-Research Professional Development component and provide scientific leadership and coordination that will integrate the clinical and translational research training and mentored professional development activities of the PRCTRC. Also I have an appointment as an Adjuntc professor in the Department of Health Services Administration, School of Public Health, UPR Medical Sciences Campus. My experience in coordinating programs in cancer and conducting research in the fields of cancer and diabetes has given her insight into the burden of these chronic conditions in the Puerto Rican population as well as in other minority populations. My research interests include understanding disparities in cancer, diabetes and gastrointestinal diseases among minority populations. I have contributed (lead author or co-author) to 12 publications in peer-reviewed journals of varying impact factors.
