Welcome to CienciaPR, an expert and resource network for all who are interested in science and Puerto Rico.
I am a fourth year undergraduate student studying chemical engineering. In the past, I researched the synthesis of smart polymers and tested physical properties such as young's modulus and self healing tests. Currently, I am working in the related field of soft materials.
Within Soft Matter, my project investigates GN-6 Metricel® MCE Membrane Disc Filters and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films, coated with silver nanoparticles. It is hypothesized that they will be active SERS substrates that will allow the detection of bioactive agents and model pollutants in water. Benzenethiol will be used as standard for the optimization of the silver thickness of the substrates.
