Filipa Godoy-Vitorino is a native of Portugal, and has developed her career studying biodiversity associated with animal microbiomes. Her lab has pioneered studies of human microbiomes in Hispanics living in Puerto Rico for future therapeutic approaches. She is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Medical Zoology at the UPR School of Medicine and the President of AAAS Caribbean Division.
