University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras) student received Fulbright Fellowship

Dakeishla Díaz Morales, student at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, received the Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research in ecotoxicology and parasotology at the University of Duisburgo-Essen. The Fulbright Fellowship is sponsored by the US Department of State and managed by the Institute of International Education.

Student at The Episcopal Cathedral School will represent Puerto Rico at international fair

Gabriel Andrades, student at The Episcopal Cathedral School won the 1st place in Chemistry at the Puerto Rico Metropolitan Science Fair and will represent Puerto Rico at an International Science Fair in Pittsburg.

Puerto Rican student won at International Conference

Enerys Pagán Olaguibel, student at School Brígida Álvarez Rodríguez in Vega Baja was recognized at the Golden Climate International Environmental Project Olympiad, in Kenia, Africa for her research to purify carbon dioxide using energy from plasma. Enerys has been conducting research at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.  

 

RUM Alumni won the Abertis award

Alumni of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (RUM) were the winners of the contest Cátedra Abertis in Puerto Rico. The winners were:

Dr. Erika Cristina Jaramillo Giraldo- Methodology to Incorporate Highway Safety into Planning using Generalized Linear Mixed Models

Natalia I. Vázquez Rivera- Statistical Optimization of Pervious Concrete Pavement Containing Fly Ash and Engineered Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Runoff Quality and Quantity Controls.

EPA Honors Puerto Rico Environmental Champions

(New York, N.Y. – April 24, 2015) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has honored five individuals and organizations from across Puerto Rico with Environmental Champion Awards for their achievements in protecting public health and the environment. EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck was joined by Donovan Richards, Chair of the New York City Council's Committee on Environmental Protection, to present the awards to this year’s recipients at a ceremony at the EPA’s offices in Manhattan. An awards ceremony in San Juan will be held at a later date.

Students from University Gardens won NASA challenge

The specialized school in Math and Sciences University Gardens won the High School division of the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge, celebrated this weekend at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center en Huntsville, in Alabama.

The students in the team were Genna Dávila Montero, José Estruche Santos, Yancarlos Maysonet Hernández, Jean A. Pérez Verdejo, Steven Márquez and Rolando Fernández. Over 80 teams from 18 States participated in the challenge.

Students from Alpha Zeta Chapter at UPR in Mayagüez received several awards at Regional Convention in Biology

The Zeta Alpha student chapter at the University or Puerto Rico in Mayagüez (RUM) received several awards at the 62 Regional Convention of the Honor National Society in Biology.

Winners:

Karina N. Ruiz Esteves and Fabio L. Tarazona Tubens, first place in oral presentations

Rocío del M. Saavedra Peña second place in oral presentations

Melanie A. Torres Santana- 1st place in Poster presentations

Lorein Moya Rodríguez- 2nd place in poster presentations

Alberic P. De León Laguna, 3rd place in Poster presentations

The Alpha Zeta student chapter won the Dr. Boyd B. Palmer Award for 2rd year in a row.

UPR Mayagüez won six first places in Engineering Competition in US

The student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez (RUM) recived 23 awards in 13 events in regionals competitions at the University of Tennessee, in Chatanooga. This is the first time that the ASCE chapter at RUM recieved awards in each category and the first time to win that many awards.
