Ciencia Puerto Rico congratulates Dr. Giovanna Guerrero Medina, former executive director of CienciaPR and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Wu Tsai Institute at Yale, and Dr. Ingrid Montes, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, election to the Board of Directors of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos, Hispanics, and Native Americans in Science, known as SACNAS. Drs. Guerrero Medina and Montes began their three-year terms (the second term for Dr. Montes) on January 1 of this year on the primary governing board of this organization, which serves a community of over 10,000 members, 28,000 followers, and 144 student and professional chapters across the United States and its territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam. Board members are elected by the organization’s members and are responsible for setting the strategic direction, providing oversight, and ensuring fundraising and resources to support the organization’s success.
For more than 50 years, SACNAS has promoted diversity, inclusion, and success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Drs. Guerrero Medina and Montes have a long history of doing the same. We are very excited to see the contributions both will make as members of the SACNAS Board of Directors. We thank our Borinqueñas for representing us!
