Science like you've never heard it before.

SAN JUAN, PR – Puerto Rican science will be the main course on April 18, starting at 7:00 pm, at Lote 23, in Santurce. As part of their activities, the March for Science-Puerto Rico will be presenting "Historias de #CienciaBoricua @ Lote 23."

The event will feature personal stories about science and adventures in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation. Through these stories, Puerto Rican scientists will share how science touches every aspect of our lives—including their own.

"Through storytelling we want the public to connect with science and the people behind it," says Dr. Mónica Feliú-Mójer, deputy director of CienciaPR, and co-organizer of the event and the March for Science-Puerto Rico. "We want to share these stories in an intimate space, where people do not expect them. That's why Lote 23 is a perfect venue."

Cristina Sumaza, co-founder of Lote 23, adds that she strongly believes "in bringing together groups—science, food and art—that traditionally do not come together. We support initiatives that attract diverse people with good projects, because that’s how extraordinary things happen."

Aligned with March for Science–Puerto Rico

One of the main goals of the March for Science-Puerto Rico is to bridge the gap between scientists and the public to foster scientific culture in Puerto Rico.

"Promoting the growth of scientific culture has great potential to positively impact the development of our country," said Dr. Juan S. Ramírez Lugo, President of the Caribbean Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and also co-organizer of the event and the March for Science-Puerto Rico. "By scientific culture we mean that all Puerto Ricans have a basic knowledge of science that allows them to develop a critical judgment and make evidenced-based decisions in their daily lives, from taking care of their health to protecting the environment."

The event "Historias de #CienciaBoricua @ Lote 23" will kick start the conversations that the organizers hope to promote through the March for Science-Puerto Rico.

The March for Science-Puerto Rico will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Plaza Colón in Old San Juan. It will move towards the Capitol and end in the Pabellón de la Paz, Luis Muñoz Rivera Park, where it will join the Para la Naturaleza Fair.
