Grand slam! Three lab groups with P. Rican researchers published in this issue of L&M

"Si por casualidad duermes, y sueñas que te acaricia la brisa..."

Those verses from Bobby Capó's song "SoÒando con Puerto Rico" transport us with their melody to the coasts of Puerto Rico. While taking this trip down memory lane, we relive the experience with the same intensity as if we were physically there. How is it that the brain allow us, just by thinking about it, to feel the tropical sun and dream of Puerto Rico?

In December's issue of the prestigious scientific journal Learning and Memory three articles by Puerto Rican authors were published, and those articles address these mysteries of the human brain.

Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company announced that its new fellowship program for teachers was well received. There have been 39 applications from high school teachers interested in furthering their training and completing masters and PhD degrees in math and sciences

Center for Structured Organic Composites starts operating

The Center for Structured Organic Composites, led by Rutgers University in a core partnership with Purdue University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (RUM), started operating officially on July 1st, 2006. The Center’s main focus is the study of particulate systems and their processing, thus the Center seeks to transform the pharmaceutical, food and agricultural industries.

The 2006 Summer Internship will consist of conferences, informal talks and interactive laboratory workshops. Researchers and graduate students from the Medical Sciences Campus, as well as science teachers will collaborate in these activities. In addition, the students will be able to c onverse with researchers and students from the six schools at the Medical Sciences Campus about career opportunities in the area of biomedical sciences
