Project Description:

A fellowship opportunity is available in the Division of Blood Disorders within the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under the direction of senior scientists, the participant will join the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch in the analysis of data. The candidate can expect to gain valuable learning experience in the practice and application of epidemiological and analytical methods used to support public health programs and projects. 

Opportunities may include:

  • Providing scientific, programmatic, and evaluation assistance to grantees and program staff.
  • Translating and disseminating research findings through graphs, charts, fact sheets, and reports.
  • Conducting epidemiology research and surveillance analyses focused on health disparities among people with blood disorders.
  • Collaborating on projects/studies with other program staff, CDC Centers, other Federal agencies, state and local health agencies, etc.
  • Consulting with epidemiologists, statisticians, and public health professionals concerning on-going and established studies where extensive methodological or subject matter interpretation is required.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The Research Participation Program for CDC is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend depending on educational level and experience. The participant must show proof of health insurance. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
