BRAINS, Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in NeuroSciences, is a national program to accelerate and improve the career advancement of neuroscience postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors from underrepresented groups. Please share this announcement widely with your networks and visit our website ( for program details and application materials. Applications will be accepted through 9 am Pacific on Monday, May 22, 2017.

We would also like to share two opportunities to learn more about the BRAINS program.

First, we recently published a piece in Neuron about the importance of better preparing trainees and advancing diversity in neuroscience through career development that moves beyond scientific skills.  You can also find a copy of the article here until June 22:

Second, please take a moment to hear about the BRAINS program through a 2016 professional development session video produced by the Society for Neuroscience. The session, “Creating connections in support of diverse neuroscientists,” highlights the BRAINS program and offers suggestions for improving professional development opportunities at your institutions. This video is open to the public until May 22, 2017, after which time it will be available to SfN members.
