El Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo invita a artistas latinoamericanos y caribeños a presentar propuestas para una exposición sobre la educación en ciencias naturales y matemática El Centro Cultural y la División de Educación del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo BID) invitan a todos los artistas de América Latina y el Caribe a presentar su obra artística a un concurso que busca explorar, reflexionar, estimular, y proponer alternativas creativas sobre el tema de la educación de ciencias naturales y matemáticas en América Latina y el Caribe. La exposición tendrá lugar en Washington, en el Centro Cultural del BID, entre el 7 y 11 de junio de 2010. A través de las manos y ojos de los artistas de la región, el BID espera crear conciencia sobre la matemática y las ciencias naturales como habilidades de base que necesitan nuestros niños. La exposición servirá para lanzar una iniciativa del BID con miras a la creación de nuevas políticas que mejoren la educación en estas áreas entre los niveles de pre-primaria y la secundaria para que alcancen el desarrollo pleno de su potencial en matemáticas y ciencias. El seminario “Un Comienzo Igual: La Enseñanza de la Matemática y las Ciencias Naturales en América Latina y el Caribe” tendrá lugar simultáneamente con la exposición, con participación de expertos y uno de los artistas expositores. Todos los artistas nacidos en América Latina y el Caribe, sin importar su lugar de residencia actual están invitados a presentar una propuesta. La fecha límite de entrega será el 25 de marzo 2010. The exhibition will be held in Washington at the IDB Headquarters, from June 7 to 11, 2010. Through the hands and eyes of the region’s artists, the Bank hopes to bring attention to mathematics and natural science as an essential foundation skill for our children. The exhibition will launch a new IDB initiative focused on creating new policies that improve a child´s ability to reach his or hers full potential in math and natural science, between the pre-primary and the secondary levels. The seminar “An Even Start: Numeracy Education in Latin America and the Caribbean” will be held concurrently with the exhibition, with participation of experts in the subject and one of the exhibiting artists. The discussion will be organized around the presentation of an overview of the status of numeracy education in the region, as well as the results of three Bank-financed initiatives. All artists born in Latin America and the Caribbean regardless of their current place of residence are invited to submit a proposal. Deadline to enter the competition is March 25, 2010.
