SACNAS is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Hispanic/Chicano and Native American scientists. SACNAS is looking for an exceptional individual who desires to work within the not-for-profit environment to design, coordinate, execute, and manage professional development and leadership development programs for diverse and underrepresented scientists and technical professionals. The Professional Programs Manager is a member of the SACNAS Programs Team, and is dedicated to the development and management of programs designed to support SACNAS postdoc and professional members in advancing their careers and attaining positions of leadership. This role leads the planning process, development, and implementation of these programs. This position is based in Santa Cruz, California. Passion and Commitment to the SACNAS mission are required. Job Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate, manage, and develop existing workshop based leadership and professional development programs for scientists. Create unique programming for professional development, leadership, and networking opportunities both onsite and within an online community for scientists. Ensure premium quality mentoring programs for top-level scientific and technical professionals. Contribute to building the resources and infrastructure necessary to ensure the delivery of high quality leadership development and professional development services. Ensure effective processes are in place to identify and assess professional and leadership development needs within a professional community and evaluate the effectiveness of the service delivery portfolio. Ensure that the values, mission, and strategic vision of SACNAS are evident throughout all programming initiatives. Collaborate and coordinate with teams and individuals internal and external to SACNAS. Implement program management tools to evaluate and track specific project outcomes. Track and plan financial aspects of programs. Report regularly to Director of Programs on developments related to program status, developments, and opportunities. Identify and pursue new funding opportunities for programs. Craft recommendations for developing existing programs and identifying areas for growth. Other duties as assigned by the SACNAS Director of Programs. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited University. At least three years of experience in some aspect of professional development training for scientists, coaching, or career development services. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Experience and high comfort level with public speaking. Demonstrated understanding of science career development and leadership principles and practices and how they could be applied to higher education, government, and industry. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Occasional regional and national travel will be required. Ability to maintain confidentiality around sensitive and complex relationships and projects. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Passion and dedication to the SACNAS mission. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in related field. Experience developing or delivering innovative professional development programs for scientists. Familiarity with planning and executing small and large group events. Experience facilitating the development of online programming and social networking aimed at a professional audience. Grants management, writing, and reporting experience. Bilingual is helpful.
