CienciaPR Creates Digital Book "Science and Solidarity" to Celebrate Community Leaders

San Juan, PR – In celebration of Community Leaders and Groups Week (Semana del Líder y los Grupos Comunitarios y de la Autogestión Comunitaria), which takes place the first week of March, the non-profit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) today published the digital book Science and Solidarity: Stories of Community Leaders in Puerto Rico (Ciencia y solidaridad: Historias de líderes comunitarios en Puerto Rico). The text highlights the stories of 11 community leaders who use science to address the needs and priorities of their communities.

Experts question Department of Health's inaction on COVID-19 and offer recommendations to improve public health response

A group of health professionals, scientists and physicians questioned the lack of action by the local Department of Health in the face of the high number of COVID-19 infections in Puerto Rico and offered specific recommendations to improve the public health response at this point in the pandemic. The statements were made during a press conference organized by the NGO and scientific collective Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR, www.cienciapr.org). In light of the flexibilization of COVID-19 mitigation measures in Puerto Rico, the NGO and scientific collective Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR, www.cienciapr.org) is calling on the public not to lower their guard and be prepared to respond to a possible surge in cases. This prestigious award honors the most outstanding project breaking the wall between science and society.

San Juan, PR — The deaf community is one of the most vulnerable and invisibilized communities in Puerto Rico, and its challenges have become even more acute during the pandemic due to lack of services, barriers to communication and access to information, among others. For that reason, and as part of Mental Health Awareness Month (October), the nonprofit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) launched a series of videos on mental health issues in sign language.

San Juan, PR – The precarious mental health situation in Puerto Rico has been worsened by the disasters and emergencies of the past four years, including Hurricanes Irma and Maria, earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic. Given this reality, the nonprofit organization Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) launched the public service campaign 'Salud mental es plenitud' (Mental health is plenitude or wholeness), as part of the educational toolkit Aquí Nos Cuidamos. 

CienciaPR establishes multi-sectoral partnerships to educate about COVID-19 and promote vaccination

Let's talk about the Delta variant

The arrival of the Delta variant has changed the landscape of the pandemic. Before we get into the details, the good news: vaccines work and protect us from serious consequences, hospitalization and death if we get the Delta variant (and the other variants) and it gives us COVID-19. The prevention measures that we already know also work to protect us from Delta and the other variants.
