The presentation of a new coding language to allow people with disabilities to program using voice commands, created by students of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedrasm won second places in the Best Demo category at the ASSETS 2015 competition that took place recently in Lisbon, Portugal.

A group of female undergrads has decided to challenge the stereotype about women in cimputer science while they create a more welcoming environment for females in the field through the organization Include Girls. The young women will combina a hackathon, a job fair and a fashion show in an event called #INCLUDE<A-THON>.

Javier Camacho, a young Puerto Rican programmer who has developed two games for the Android operating system and an app to maintain personal finances, recently released a third game titled ‘Shooting Dots’, that can be acquired from Google Play from the 16 of August.

Estefanía Ortiz: Coding her future and planting seeds of success

Estefanía Ortiz, a Hackathon fan and young entrepreneur, grew up in the town of Guaynabo Puerto Rico and went to the Marista private school for most of her schooling. Estefanía finished her last high school year doing home schooling, and today she is a sophomore majoring Computer Science at Stanford University.  Estefanía told me that a transformational moment in her life was a conversation she had with her math teacher.

The PsyTrack Team, a group of student-programmers from several Puerto Rican universities, will participate in the Microsoft Imagine Cup in Russia. The students will present their game PiggySpanker, which consists of rescueing the main character, a pig, and its friends.
