The Puerto Rico Science and Technology Trust was created seven years ago and its slated to invest $45 million in the future of research and development in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, this important institution is facing serious challenges coming from the government.

Governor Acevedo Vilá announced the new public policy on scientific research that Hill integrate universities, the private industry and the government, with the promise of generating discoveries in the health field and the potential of generating more economical activity and jobs in the Country. The new policy will encourage and increase in research projects as well as the education of more investigators in the Island. Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá anticipates that this initiative will make Puerto Rican investigators working abroad want to return to Puerto Rico to do their research. Puerto Rico is one of the most important drug manufacturing centers in the world, but the goal is to research and develop new drugs, which is still not being done in the Country.
