Why attend ABRCMS? Student describe their experiences

Students are the focus of the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) meeting, held most recently November 9-12, 2016, in Tampa, Florida. Undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students make up over half the roughly 4,000 program participants, and many participants belong to minority populations often underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. While the American Society for Microbiology helps manage the meeting, student research on all STEM fields is easy to find at the numerous poster and oral presentations.

#SACNAS2015: Expand Your Network: Identifying Advisors, Mentors & Sponsors

During the 2015 SACNAS National Conference, Drs. Mónica I. Feliú-Mójer and Yaihara Fortis-Santiago from Ciencia Puerto Rico took part in this workshop offering tips and advice on how you can support your career advancement by cultivating a professional and personal network by identifying advisors, mentors and sponsors. Presented at the 2015 SACNAS National Conference by Drs. Mary García-Cazarín, Yaihara Fortis-Santiago, Kermin Martínez-Hernández, Nahyr Rovira-Figueroa, and Mónica Feliú-Mójer.

Puerto Rico Social at SfN 2014

Around 60 Puerto Rican scientists or people with scientific ties with Puerto Rico attended the Puerto Rico social during this year’s Society for Neuroscience meeting (SfN). The social was held in Washington D.C., on Sunday, November 16. During the social, hebbian links were formed and fortified within the neuroscientist community that researches in the Puerto Rican archipelago with other scientists that research in other parts of the world.
