The Puertorrican scientists, Abel Méndez, Physics Professor and Director of the Planetary Habitability Laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico, Arecibo Campus together with Wilson González Espada, Physics and Science Education Professor at Morehead State University, in Kentucky, have just published the book: Searching for Habitable Worlds.

One of the Master's students who graduated last week from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at the Mayaguez Campus, will be publishing his thesis work on the discovery of a new species in the entomology field. Fernando González Delgado, discovered the new species of fly Calycomyza portoricensis.

The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) is actively engaged in the race to develop a vaccine against HIV. In just 18 month, researchers from the Molecular Sciences Research Center at UPR have succesfully completed the first phase of a project to develop an HIV vaccine and are waiting for NIH aproval to begin the second phase.

A group of distinguished puertorrican and foreign epidemiologists met for two days with the staff from the Puerto Rico Science and Techonology Trust (FCTI) as part of a collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico and the University of Georgia. This initiative seeks to identify tools and methods to diagnose, treat and prevent zika and other similar viruses.
