Boricua students receive the Graduate Research Fellowship Program grant

We would like to congratulate all the students who received the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This fellowship recognizes and supports students who have excelled in science, mathematics, technology or engineering (also known as STEM disciplines) and other fields of knowledge. Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $34,000 per year to pursue graduate studies. The application is highly competitive and extensive, requiring several letters of recommendation, a personal essay and a research proposal with an intellectual merit section and a societal impact section.

Agradeceríamos su participación en la siguiente encuesta sobre programas de postgrado en el Departamento de Ciencias Ambientales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río Piedras.

Para satisfacer mejor las necesidades futuras de los estudiantes graduados y de Puerto Rico, estamos revisando el programa actual de MS-PhD y desarrollando otras opciones de títulos, tales como una Maestría Profesional en Ciencias Ambientales y una Maestría en Ciencias Forestales. Estas opciones podrían ayudar a promover la conservación de recursos y el desarrollo económico sostenible, y servir mejor al público de Puerto Rico.

The team Microgravity Center for Advanced Nanoscale Materials (Micro-G CANM 2) from the Chemistry Department at the Natural Sciences School at the University of Puerto Rico was one of 5 teams selected to run experiments on zero gravity at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas last week. The team of students was led by Dr. Carlos Cabrera.
